Visa Information
Visa Conditions Student Visas and temporary entry permits usually last for the period of your program. Your Student Visa does not permit you to study part-time. You must be a full-time student. SGSM is obliged to report any student who does not attend classes, or who is not making satisfactory progress in their studies, to the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs (DIMA). Your student visa requires you to remain in the institution in which you initially enrolled for the first (12) twelve months of your program, or if the program is less than twelve (12) months, for the duration of the program. Permission to change to another education provider can only be given by DIMA. Under Visa regulations you are required to leave Australia on or before the date your visa expires unless you have applied for a visa extension. If you wish to extend your visa you should first contact the SGSM office. You must apply for an extension before the expiry of your current visa! The Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs has comprehensive information on:
Work Visas Your initial Student Visa does not give you permission to work in Australia. However, after officially commencing your course of study, you become eligible to apply for permission to work. All eligible students will receive a Work Rights visa. This visa permits you to work up to twenty (20) hours per week during term time, and unlimited hours during vacation time. |
